Your time is valuable, and you certainly don’t want to make multiple calls to our parts call center or our nearest warehouse. You can simplify the process of buying replacement tracks by first collecting all the information we will need to size and select your tracks correctly. You know what numbers are necessary when you buy tires, for example, but you may need a little help with doing the same for your rubber tracks.
Interestingly, one way to identify the correct track is to look at the inside of it. Often, you will find either the size or part number stamped into the rubber much as you’d see on a car tire.
But the most common way of assuring that you buy rubber tracks that fit is to provide us with the correct make and model of your machine, along with the serial number if your machine has one. This is usually all we need because we maintain a massive database that includes rubber-tracked equipment from the late 1980s up to today. And we are constantly adding to this database as new models are introduced.
Track loaders are a special case. While we will still want your machine’s make, model, and serial number, we will also want to know the width of your tracks. Many original equipment manufacturers offer different widths for the same machine. Common width options, for example, are 320 mm, 400 mm, and 450 mm.
Another difference you’ll find in track loaders is that their rubber tracks have tread pattern options. You may choose the C-tread for normal terrain, or the Z-tread if you’ll be operating in snowy, muddy, or just generally sloppy conditions.
Let’s say that you just can’t find the information that we’ve already discussed. We can still take care of you, but you’ll need to move on to a more advanced method.
Did you know that you can also identify the track by taking a few measurements? Three primary measurements identify a rubber track. To find the best replacement, we will need the following information:
Our experience tells us that explaining over the phone how to measure those values correctly can be the hardest part of the job. That’s why we asked Bryan Maul, our Parts Manager, to provide us with an explanatory graphic we can share that makes the job easier.
One last caution: in some rare instances we may need to know the rubber track’s guide width or the width of the sprocket. In those special cases, just give us a call, and we’ll talk you through it.
Hopefully, the information on this page will make your next call to our parts department just a little easier!
